Get your skin ready for summer

If you still have not started with your summer preparations, then it is high-time to get to it. Besides the regular seasonal shopping sprees, this is the perfect timing to pay a little attention to your skin care so you would greet this summer prepared. Most of us simply cannot wait for the first rays of sun to come shining down so we could begin building up that perfect summer tan. But if you wish to maintain healthy, shiny and beautiful skin, you better start with these few things:

1. Brush it off - Exfoliation

Regular exfoliation is the first step of every skin care routine. Of course, during those long summer months, you will need to step up the exfoliating game a bit. Every season has its ups and downs and as much as we love the hot weather, we must come to terms that humidity and heat are not always the best choice for our skin. Your body will become subjected to all kinds of dirt, dust, residues of sunscreens, oils and creams that can cause some major skin issues if not removed correctly. This is why it is important to exfoliate regularly, use a good scrub and rely on retinoid and glycolic products to achieve maximum results.

2. Sun Protection

Do not be fooled by those cloudy days and pleasant afternoons - sunscreen should be applied every day during summer. Opt for a broad spectrum sunscreen, preferably water resistant and remember to reapply it approximately every two hours. This will protect you from radiation, prevent those burns and also defend from sun spots, brown spots and formation of wrinkles and deep lines. Also, make sure to apply sunscreen everywhere - arms, legs, shoulders, neck, d├ęcolletage, feet, as you want to protect your whole body, not just your face.

3. Reconsider your products

Although you probably already have an established skin care routine that works well, it is really important to modify the products you use during summer. With the increased heat and humidity in the air, your skin needs to breathe, stay fresh and clean from all the piled up lotions and sunscreens. This is why it is recommended to switch your products and rely more on foaming cleansers and toners that contain salicylic and glycolic acid. Also, try to avoid creamy and oily moisturisers and opt for something that will hydrate your skin but keep it refreshed.

4. Redefining SPF

As already mentioned, sunscreen is one of the most important parts of a proper skin care routine, but it seems like the FDA is very strict about what qualifies as proper sunscreen and what not. Under these regulations, all sunscreen products that protect from all types of sun induced damage will be labelled Broad Spectrum and SPF 15 or higher. Also, manufactures no longer have the right to claim that their products are waterproof, sweat-proof or to actually use the term sunblock. Also, the products will need to specify how long the protection lasts while swimming or sweating.

These tips just might work for some, but when it comes to the elderly audience, perhaps it is a good idea to search for a solution in a form of facial rejuvenation. Experts from a laser clinic at Bondi beach in Sydney claim that when face lift and shaping with fillers, implants or surgery are combined, you get the joint benefits of skin tightening and lifting along with volume enhancement. Also, once you add the factor of laser resurfacing, you are benefiting from smoother skin and ridding your face from all those imperfections caused by the sun.
