5 Countries to go visit

A while ago someone asked me in my list of places to go, which 5 countries would I firstly go to if money and time was not an issue.
Relying on that question I decided to write a post about what my answer was.

Now first thing to keep in mind is that a lot of places that would be in my top 5 list I have had the pleasure to go to already. So the ones I will list below I have never been able to go, not even to the airport... :'(

The order of these places is not in preference, it is in simple alphabetical order, I just couldn't put the most wanted order on them...

1. Egypt

Need I say much? Yes. It is cliche, but if you have never seen The Great Pyramid in person, and you know that that is the ONLY wonder of the original 7 wonders of the world still existing, the curiosity lurks!
I want to see the pyramids, the Sphinx, the Nile river. I won't say I necessarily want to experience the culture and food and camels because that I have experienced before in Dubai. And yes, I know it is not the same, but what calls to me the most are the very cliche constructions...

I mean have you not wondered how they managed to build those things with the very little technology they had (compared to today's)?!
Do you not wonder how majestic and big they must be to be seen in person?!

I do.
For those of you who have not experience Arabic culture, this is also a great opportunity to eat Arabic food, feel the Arabic culture, hear the language and so on.

2. Greece

Another cliche, specially for honey moon. Greece though is a country I would like to explore all.
I love Greek food, and I want to hear the language, feel the culture, and if I were to pick the 2 places I would not leave without seeing I would say Santorini and Athens.

Santorini for it's majestic natural beauty. I mean did you know that Santorini is the remains of a massive volcanic eruption that created this lagoon surrounded by cliffs?! That plus the architecture and colour the people use just give it a bit of mystery.

Athens is just full of the classical era showing around like the Parthenon, and I feel very curious to see those ancient monuments, and work of arts in person.

3. Iceland

Yes, I know, VERY cold!
Still, it is a beauty, and there is no cold that will stop me from seeing it.
This is for me what looking at nature and its' formation from a very awesome point of view.
Iceland is volcanically and geologically active, consists in sand and lava fields, mountains, glaciers, and rivers.
What about getting a chance to see the aurora borealis? Or even so the midnight sun? I want!

And although the name sounds like it would be dead cold, it isn't. In winter, depending on the region you are you may get the coldest being -10 degrees C, or -30. And in summer, you may get 13 or 25 degrees C.

4. Philippines

This is probably the most weird choice you would see after so many cliches!
Many years ago I shared a house with a Filipino girl, and she told me things about the culture and what the country looks like, and she cooked typical Filipino food for us, and since then I have been very interested in visiting this country.

This is a place filled with white sand beaches, mountains, rain forests, islands, diving spots and so much more. I would firstly go to Manila and explore from there.

5. Turkey

This is a place I have been fascinated about since in school when I read a story book about Turkey, and I thought it must be a very intriguing place to go to.

I mean Turkey has 13 UNESCO World Heritage sites AND 2 of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, does that not tell you something?!
I want to see the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Temple of Artemis, apart from other beauties including the city of Istanbul itself.

Now if you could answer to the same question that was made to me, what would your first 5 countries be? And why?

Let me know in the comments below.

  1. Love this post! Greece is definitely on my hitlist for foodie reasons, and I was actually watching a programme about the pyramids the other day - I'm fascinated by them, so would love to visit Egypt too!

  4. Ahh, that is such a tough question. I would say, in no order, Sweden, New Zealand, Burkina Faso, Indonesia, Iceland, and Bali. Whoops 6 :)
